DRINKING WATER TREATMENT

Treatment systems designed and sized according to water quality, consumption and the characteristics of the building.

PRESERVING WATER QUALITY, PROTECTING THE SYSTEM

Water supplied by the public network is monitored and must meet drinking-water requirements. Within a building, however, hardness, particles, flow rate, materials and operating conditions may make targeted treatment appropriate.

Fulcor assesses the available data and the characteristics of the system to determine the most appropriate treatment and technologies for the project.

THE DESIGN TAKES INTO ACCOUNT:

• Initial water quality and hardness
• Available flow rate and pressure
• Consumption and peak demand
• Connected materials and equipment
• Required continuity of service

Does the water come from a spring, well, lake or aquifer? In this case, the design starts with the source.

TECHNOLOGIES INTEGRATED TO SUIT THE PROJECT

Fulcor selects and sizes each technology according to the characteristics of the water, the operating conditions of the system and the project objectives.

MECHANICAL FILTRATION: RETAINING PARTICLES, PROTECTING THE SYSTEM

Under certain conditions, even water supplied by the public network may carry solid particles originating in the network itself or the service connection. Works, repairs and upstream corrosion can mobilise sand, sediment and corrosion products, carrying them to the point where water enters the building system.

A mechanical filter may be specified when particles have already been observed, when pressure reducers, valves or sensitive equipment need protection, or when required by the water supplier or equipment manufacturer.

Fulcor assesses whether filtration is appropriate and defines the filter type, filtration rating and size based on flow rate, pressure and system characteristics. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to preserve performance and hygienic conditions.

JUDO PROFIMAT: AUTOMATIC BACKWASH FILTRATION

For systems where manual intervention needs to be reduced while maintaining continuity of service, Fulcor can integrate JUDO PROFIMAT, an automatic protective filter equipped with a stainless-steel filter screen.

The trapped particles are removed through a backwashing cycle that cleans the filter screen and flushes the accumulated residues to the drain. In ATP versions, backwashing can be triggered either at programmed intervals or according to the pressure differential measured across the filter.

During backwashing, the water supply and filtration continue without interruption. Fulcor selects and sizes the appropriate model according to the flow rate, pressure, pipe diameter and characteristics of the system.

WATER SOFTENING: REDUCING HARDNESS, LIMITING SCALE BUILD-UP

Water hardness is determined mainly by the presence of calcium and magnesium. Within systems, limescale can build up on surfaces and inside water heaters, heat exchangers, taps and other connected equipment. Over time, these deposits can restrict water flow, reduce heat-transfer efficiency, increase maintenance requirements and ultimately impair correct operation.

An ion-exchange water softener reduces hardness by replacing some calcium and magnesium ions with sodium ions. The system is sized according to initial hardness, peak flow rate, consumption, required service continuity and target residual hardness.

Fulcor follows the project from data collection through system setup and long-term operation.

ADDOLCIMENTO
DOSAGGIO E CONDIZIONAMENTO

Not every treatment works by removing substances from the water. In some systems, specific parameters may need to be adjusted or stabilised to limit corrosion and scale formation, or to maintain conditions compatible with the connected materials and equipment.

A dosing system introduces controlled quantities of a treatment product suitable for the intended application, either continuously or in proportion to the flow rate. The dosing pump, storage tank, injection point, controls and safety devices are specified according to the water data and operating conditions.

THE DESIGN DEFINES:

• The parameter to be adjusted
• The appropriate product and concentration
• The dosing quantity and method
• The injection point
• The controls and safety devices

Fulcor handles system sizing, installation and commissioning, and can also provide ongoing inspections and maintenance.

REVERSE OSMOSIS AND SELECTIVE TREATMENTS

When water must meet defined requirements for a specific use, the treatment process may require selective technologies. Activated carbon, specialised filter media and membranes target different parameters and are selected according to the analytical data and the water quality required at the point of use.

In reverse osmosis, water passes through a semi-permeable membrane that separates part of the salts and dissolved substances. The system is configured according to the initial water quality, required flow rate, available pressure, recovery rate, concentrate discharge and required service continuity.

Appropriate pre-treatment helps protect the membranes and preserve their performance over time.

THE DESIGN TAKES INTO ACCOUNT:

• Parameters to be reduced
• Required water quality at the point of use
• Flow rate and service continuity
• Required pre-treatment
• Pressure, recovery and discharge
• Controls and maintenance

Fulcor integrates the different stages into the overall design and provides system setup and maintenance.
